Moses is revered in Islam as one of the greatest prophets of God. Within Islam is also taught that the texts of the Torah and the Gospel of the Bible, as a result of carelessness and self-interest, are corrupted and alienated from their divine originals. Despite this alienation the texts of the Torah and the Gospels resemble closely certain chapters in the Qur'an. This also applies to the Ten Commandments:

1.  "There is no god but God." (Qur'an 47:19)

2.  "My Lord, make this a peaceful country and protect me and my children from worshiping idols." (Qur'an 14:35)

3.  "And make not Allah (Gods name) an excuse in your oaths against doing good deeds or making peace between people as Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing." (Qur'an 2:224) This is explained by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as: "If anyone takes a solemn oath (something he will do or not do) and then realizes that something else is more righteous, let him break his oath and let him expiate."

4.  "O ye who believe, when the call to Friday prayer (Salat Al-Juma'ah) is announced, you rush to remember God and drop all your business." (Qur'an 62:9) The Sabbath was abolished by the revelation of the Qur'an. The Sabbath was only decreed for the Jews, but God commands Muslims to do its utmost to attend the Friday prayer and to stop their business until after the joint Friday prayers.

5.  "... And your parents are honoured. As long as one or both of them live, you will never even say "Uff" (the slightest gesture of annoyance) to them, nor should you yell at them. You treat them kindly." (Qur'an 17:23)

6.  "... Everyone who murdered someone else, who had not committed murder or other serious crime, it will be as if he has killed all mankind." (Qur'an 5:32)

7.  "Thou shall not commit adultery; it is a gross sin and evil behaviour. (Qur'an 17:32)

8.  "Thou shall not steal". (Al-Mumtahanah 60:12) and "The thief, male or female, you will cut off their hands as punishment for their crime and to serve as an example of God. God is the Almighty, the Wise." (Qur'an 5:38)

9.  "Do not hold evidence behind by hiding what you've been witnessing. Anyone who withholds a testimony is sinful at heart." (Qur'an 2:283)

10. "And do not desire what has been given to any other man. These are temporary ornaments of this life, through which we test them. What your Lord provides for you is much better and forever." (Qur'an 20:131)

Also a set of moral rules are found in the Qur'an (17:22 Al-Israa - "The night journey") that can reasonably be regarded as 10 in number. These resemble the Ten Commandments in the Bible and represent the most comprehensive overview of the rules of conduct which every Muslim must follow in addition to all other moral rules in the Qur'an:

1.  Worship only God: Take not besides Allah another object of worship, or thou (O man!) will sit in disgrace and misery. (Qur'an 17:22)

2.  Be kind, honest and humble to your parents: Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him and that ye be kind towards the parents. Whether one or both attain old age in your life, say not a word of contempt or repel them, but you will treat them with respect. (Qur'an 17:23) And, out of kindness, you will humble yourself more and say: 'My Lord, grant them your mercy as they cherished me in my childhood. (Qur'an 17:24)

3.  Do not be greedy or wasteful in your spending and give to your relatives their due rights, and (also) to the needy, and the travellers. But not squander your wealth through thrift. (Qur'an 17:26) Verily those who squander are brothers of the devils and the devil is ungrateful to the Lord. (Qur'an 17:27) Even if you run away from them, seeking mercy from thy Lord which thou dost expect, yet you speak to them a kind word. (Qur'an 17:28) Do nut put your hand around your neck (like a miser), nor do you stretch your hand as far as you can, so you will become blameworthy and destitute. (Qur'an 17:29)

4.  Do not engage in murder from mercy, out of fear of hunger. Do not kill your children for fear of their needs: We will maintain their livelihood and your maintenance. Indeed, the killing of them is a great sin. (Qur'an 17:31)

5.  Thou shall not commit adultery: Nor come nigh to adultery: for it is a gross sin and evil behaviour, which opens the way for other evils. (Qur'an 17:32)

6.  Do not kill unjustly: Finish no life - which Allah has made sacred - except if it is a legitimate case. And if anyone is slain wrongfully, we have given their heirs the authority to ask for ‘qisas’ (beheading) or forgiveness: but let him not exceed limits in taking life, for he is helped (by the law). (Qur'an 17:33)

7.  Care for orphaned children: Do not touch the property of the orphan, except to improve it, until he reaches the age of full strength. (Qur'an 17:34)

8.  Stick to your promises: Fulfil every promise, agreement or contract for any promise is apprehended on the Day of Reckoning. (Qur'an 17:34)

9.  Be fair and honest in your interactions: Give full measure when you measure and weigh with a right balance, which is the most appropriate and most advantageous to the final determination. (Qur'an 17:35)

10. Do not be arrogant in your claims or beliefs: And pursue not that of which thou hast no knowledge, because on every act of hearing, seeing or feeling in the heart will be inquired on the Day of Reckoning. (Qur'an 17:36) Nor walk on the earth with brutality, because you can not split the earth nor can you reach the height of a mountain. (Qur'an 17:37).
